The Hawks don't have one player that I would buy a ticket to watch. When your best player is named Joe Johnson you got to think "Maybe we need to reevaluate how we market our team." Nothing against Joe Johnson as a player, I think he is a wonderful talent, but the name needs a little more flair to it. Come on, keep it real, everyone in the NBA knows the best thing about playing the Atlanta Hawks is the extra curricular activity that goes on in the ATL after the game. Which should shame the Hawks even more cause I know that every player on the Cavs was out every night enjoying the "atmosphere" of Atlanta. That should account for 10 pts minimum, like the "South beach factor" in Miami or the "Hollywood factor" in Los Angeles. There's no way you get swept! I'm surprised that the Cavs didn't shave some points to extend the series on purpose for a few more days in one of the NBA players' most favorite cities.
I wish the same thing would've happened in the Denver series. Who are they playing again? Oh yeah the Mavericks. Why delay the inevitable? Sell a few more tickets? Maybe a few more Dirk jerseys? Or maybe give time for Mark Cuban to insult a few more mothers on "Mothers Day." What a jerk? I hope Kenyon Martin doesn't go off on Mark Cuban. Can you imagine these two going at? Would be over quick. And I agree with Kenyon Martin. Family, mothers, kids are all off limit. I don't care how mad you get, you never insult a dude's mother.
I have to give kudos to Dirk for the way he's playing despite tremendous pressure off of the court. To drop 44 points and go 14-25 from the field takes great concentration and it has to be hard after finding out your "fiance" is not who you thought she was. I am sure he was wishing for something better.
And how about Carmelo Anthony? He is really coming of age. With the league full of young stars like Lebron and Chris Paul, it seems as if Anthony was always on the back page. Well he can really catapult himself to the forefront if he can get into the Western Conference Finals and duel it out with Kobe. And if the Rockets win, who better to solidify yourself then two great defenders in Shane Battier and Ron Artest?
So yeah, I was wrong about the Lakers-Rockets series. It may not be a cake walk for the Lakers But let's keep it real, the Rockets still don't have much of a chance. The emotion that they played with was off the charts in Houston but in no way shape or form do I really believe they can keep it up tonight in Los Angeles. Too many distractions, too many celebs and there will be too much Kobe tonight, you can bet on it. And at some point the loss of Yao will sink in. The Rockets are donuts, a hole in the middle without Yao. Kobe get's 30+ tonight.
Orlando really blew one the other day. I found it hilarious that Dwight Howard labeled the assassin "Big Shot Baby Davis." And now the C's are home in Boston and you have to wonder if the Magic can find some magic tonight and withstand a Beantown crowd that is going to be crazy. If the Magic don't make 10 or more 3-point shots tonight they lose. That's my prediction. I have a feeling Ray Allen may be the one making the 3's tonight and Orlando will be going back home down 3-2. But I get that feeling that this one is going seven. No doubt.
And oh yeah, this country is getting softer and softer by the minute. What wussies we are? A fan wants an apology for the Glen Big Baby Davis for bumping his son after the big shot the other day. Please. What a chump you are! Tell your son to man up. Maybe Orlando should bump you out and move you up to the cheap seats. How soft are we gonna get? What is this world coming to? Get real.
No doubt John, I feel you on your column...Great basketball minds think alike.....
